Freestyle football fans were thrilled in Valencia, Spain, on Saturday evening as the world’s 16 best male and eight best female freestylers put on a dazzling display of style and skill at the 2021 Red Bull Street Style World Finals.
VALENCIA (ESP) – Lia Lewis (UK) thrilled the crowd with her acrobatic-inspired routines, overcoming the USA’s Caitlyn Schrepfer in the semis before beating one of the pre-tournament favourites, Aguska Mnich, in the final.
Whilst the female competition produced a new champion, Norway’s Erlend Fagerli made history in the men’s draw, beating Jesse Marlet in the Final to take his third Red Bull Street Style crown.
Speaking of her win, Lia said; “This is literally the best moment of my life, I can’t explain how it feels. I am still shaking and it hasn’t really sunk in. Aguska is an incredible freestyler – in my opinion she is the best in the world at what she does – so to beat her in the Final is a very special feeling.”
Erlend said: “It feels really good to be a winner once again. I really felt the pressure and knew I had to perform. The freestyle audience in Spain was amazing, it gave me so much energy and focus, so I was happy I was able to put on a great display for them.”
In the third place play-offs Caitlyn defeated defending champion Melody Donchet to claim the final place on the women’s podium, while in the men’s competition Colombian Boyka Ortiz beat Jeffry Chacon from Costa Rica.
The competition was judged by five of the most respected names in the freestyle football community including first ever Red Bull Street Style world champion Séan Garnier (France), Javi Sanz (Spain), Tobias Becs (Norway), Michal Rycaj (Poland) and two-time Red Bull Street Style champion Kitti Szász (Hungary).
The Red Bull Street Style World Finals capped off a remarkable weekend in Valencia as fans returned to the pinnacle competition in freestyle football for the first time in two years, in a celebration of style, skill and diversity.
