hq7 studios, a one-of-a-kind film production facility based in Vienna, is excited to announce the end of construction and the start of operations. After less than two years of building the most advanced film production facility in Austria, hq7 studios is now ready to serve as the ideal base for national and international film productions. A project by Hafen Wien and hq7 studios, a joint company by CC Real International and 3MPG GmbH, is set to become one of the best places for film production in Central Europe.
The facility comprises two fully soundproof stages, measuring approximately 1,000 and 2,000 square meters, with an inner height of 13 meters and catwalks directly under the roof. Both stages are completely empty and designed for heavy weight, with concrete roof trusses capable of supporting up to 180 tons in total. The facility features modern offices, versatile workshop and warehouse spaces, fixed sets, and 24/7 access parking, ensuring a seamless production experience. Accessibility to the stages is enhanced with barrier-free design; the two main gates allow trucks to drive directly into the stages to unload film equipment, and the entrance gates are designed as sound locks. Underfloor heating completes the modern facilities, which are unique in Europe.
Located conveniently in Vienna, hq7 studios is positioned between the airport and the city center, making travel effortless. The sea, lakes, and glaciers are all reachable within up to a 4-hour drive. The complex also includes 2,000 square meters of ancillary spaces, providing everything filmmakers need for a seamless production experience—all in one city-based location. Austria’s picturesque landscapes, combined with the newly introduced Austrian film incentive scheme, featuring a 30% cash rebate and a 5% green production bonus, make it an attractive location for filmmakers.
Sustainability has also been thoroughly considered, with hq7 studios being energy-efficient and equipped with a massive photovoltaic system. With more than 704 solar panels, the stages are supplied with green electricity, expecting an annual production of 283,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), resulting in CO2 savings of approximately 80,000 kg per year.
“We are glad to say that with hq7 studios, Vienna can now offer the ideal infrastructure for national and international high-quality studio productions. With the combination of the new incentives (FISA+, ÖFI+, Vienna Film incentive), well-educated crews, and these purpose-built sound stages, there are hardly any reasons for producers not to come to Vienna and shoot here. The high quality of local service providers, from set construction to equipment and costume rental houses, are globally known and a significant advantage to have,” says Anu Shanker, Managing Director of hq7 studios.
With an extensive network of local vendors and skilled crews readily available, hq7 studios is set to become a pivotal hub for filmmakers. This combination of top-tier facilities, advantageous incentives, and the natural beauty of Austria makes hq7 studios an outstanding choice for film production.
